Who We Are

OUR HISTORY

The Women’s Place Resource Centre is governed by the Western Area Women’s Coalition (WAWC).  On September 1, 1991 a group of women knows as the ACCORD Women’s Committee met at 7 Faye Rd. in Bridgetown and signed the incorporation papers for what then became the Annapolis County Women’s Coalition.  The ACWC has grown far beyond the geographical borders that guided the work in the early nineties.  In July 1999, the ACWC officially became the Western Area Women’s Coalition.

The Western Area Women’s Coalition is comprised of an eight women board of directors.  The Board of the Coalition meets eight times yearly or by special meeting when needed.  If you are interested in becoming a member of the coalition, request a package by contacting the Centre at 638-8566.

OUR LOGO

The Women’s Place Resource Centre’s logo with the three spirals was selected as it represents a sense of openness and grace with an organic, slightly abstract tree or flower shape with spirals suggesting growth, movement, change and hope.

The accompanying website image of the red spiralling seashell with seed growth is the beautiful work of artist Sheila LeBlanc-Joyce of www.labouroflight.com and further echoes the sense of spiralling, becoming and new growth.
