Ongoing Programs

The Road Here

This is the title of a book that reflects the experiences and wisdom of women in our communities.  Edited by Rachel Brighton, this book tells the stories of women who made wonderful contributions to our area.  The book is available for sale for $10.95 at The Women’s Place Resource Centre.  All proceeds go to the Francis Mills Clements Bursary Fund.

Self Defense for Women

This program is available when there are ten women interested in participating.  Each session is about two hours long, and shows women how to protect themselves and how to get away from an attacker.  Eileen Doucet-Walsh is the instructor.  She has a Black Belt in Karate, and lives in Annapolis Royal.

International Child Assault Prevention Project (ICAP)

ICAP engages children in an interactive workshop that empowers them to have a voice and strategize how to protect themselves from bullying, strangers, and known adults who may be dangerous.  According to parents who have written testimonials to ICAP, “the information presented is not threatening – only helpful.”  We are currently looking for volunteers to go into the classrooms and help us facilitate these workshops.  If you are interested, please contact us at 638-8566.  For more information on ICAP, please check out their website at www.internationalcap.org.

Francis Mills-Clements Bursary Fund

This bursary for women resulted from a tribute for a very active woman in our community, Francis Mills-Clements.  Upon her request any donations from the tribute were to go to a bursary fund.  The fund is managed by The Women’s Place Resource Centre and the Nova Scotia Advisory on the Council of Women.  Each June, there is a bursary dispersed to a woman within Annapolis, Kings, and Digby Counties.  If you would like more information on this bursary, check our website or call The Women’s Centre at 638-8566.

Dr. Elizabeth King

Dr. King has been provided a space at The Women's Place Resource Centre every second Tuesday.  Dr. King is a medical doctor who focuses exclusively on psychotherapy.  Services are covered through MSI.  For an appointment or for more information, please contact Dr. King directly at 532-0500.
