Women's History Month

Each October is Women's History Month.  Women's History Month (WHM) was created in 1992 to encourage greater awareness among Canadians of the historical contributions of women to our society, and to recognize the achievements of women as a vital part of our Canadian heritage. The celebration is different each year, but the goal of WHM the same.  The purpose is to write women back into Canadian history and to develop a better understanding of the diverse roles women play in contemporary society.

The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

This remembrance is December 6th of each year.  Established in 1991 by the Parliament of Canada, this day coincides with the sad anniversary of the death of fourteen young women who were tragically killed on December 6, 1989 at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal because of their gender.

International Women's Day

This day was first marked in 1911 by many countries to protest women's working conditions.  In 1977, the United Nations invited all member states to designate a day as International Women's Day. Women across the province mark this day with events to celebrate women's accomplishments.
